Fellow Grady Owners,

I have absolutely no affiliation with this company whatsoever, but, just had to post this great find.

Found out about NBOA on The Hull Truth forum and a lot of people have switched over to them. My example, Marlin 31'with NBOA is less than my single engine 23' Gulfstream with State Farm. Also, their quote was $600 less than Progressive/ State Farm and $1,400 LESS than Boat US. Yep, that's right.....$1,400 less than Boat US. Even being a member of Boat US the numbers were so far off I just gave up on finding cheap insurance until I ran across the thread on THT.

Their business is virtually all word of mouth. I'm told they have virtually all the Sea Ray business. Those boats really need insurance if you know what I mean...

NBOA located on West coast of Florida and have been there for years. Make sure you tell them if you have taken a Certified safety course OR layup the boat for the winter months. One more thing I found beneficial, the deductible is not tied to your boat deductible. $250 is deductible for personal items or electronics stolen from boat.

Hi Richard,
What are their payouts, copays and so forth? I have USAA for my home and cars and they got out of the boat/RV insurance recently. They set up a program with Progressive for USAA members. My policy on a new boat is replacement costs for the first 5 years and then after that I get what I paid for it in 2009. I chose my deductibles and so forth.

Sometimes, not always, insurance is a get what you pay for kind of thing. It may be cheaper but it also may be cheaper coverage leaving the boater high and dry if there is a claim made...

I've also got USAA coverage and am pleased with the rates. Luckily I've never had a claim on the boat but would expect great service from USAA as we've had with cars & home. :D

Apples for apples. $1000 deductible against all major Ins. companies NBOA by far was less expensive (for me and alot of boaters on THT). Their website tells who they are backed by...which I think is American Bankers or something close to this??? Which is supposed to be a large marine underwriter. I'm just giving options to those seeking insurance.

I took your advice and asked them for a quote on my 2008 Tournament 225. It looks like they are going to be significantly less expensive than Boat U.S. and especially Progressive. It maybe because they don't have much of a loss ratio in KY. I will post the final quote and coverages tomorrow when I iron out all the details.
If anyone knows any reason NOT to do business with them, PLEASE let me know. Thanks

Considering i have done survey reports for 5 companies

BOAT US was the only company that OK-ed everything that i said that needed fixing

progressive, man they wanted me to take 1 step at a time, i told the guy your going to either break one of my tools or your going to make me loose my ass on this job!

My buddy his really high up in TRAVELER's, he states those cheaper rate guys are very hard to please on a claim

Very good point about boat ins. Its not just who have the cheapest price guys, its whos going to fork up the $$$$ and not give you a hassle when the time comes to use the ins you bought. Thats one reason why I went with Boat US this time around. The rate they gave me was good as well.

FWIW traverlers put me through the wringer and then some on a legitimate claim a few years back and in the end denied it and last week decided they would not re-new my coverage for the upcoming season due to that.

NBOA vs BOAT US - MEMBER REQUIREMENTS??

Damn it, I just wrote a check to Boat US for my towing for the year. Does anyone know if you have to be a member of NBOA to get their insurance coverage?

I have found it to be a great advantage with any insurance to know your agent.
I have gotten poor service on some claims and called my agent and it was amazing how the service changed on my loss for the good.

They build the member fee into the quote. When you get the invoice...it will be broken out.
