Best prop for a 228 with the Yamaha 250?

More newbie questions...

The troll mode on my 250 at 600 rpm is still over 3mph. Doesn't matter if I am down wind, up wind, whatever, it is over 3mph. So I found a Suzuki kicker that will be here Tuesday. Point being, I don't need a slow prop to try go slow, that's what the dealer gave me and it isn't slow enough. If anyone needs a 15.5 x 17 prop, I have one for you.

Any 228 owners out there who can say yes or no to that prop? The main reason for it is to lift the stern a bit so I can go slow through slop but on plane. The boat wants to drop off plane between 24-20mph. If you don't like that prop can you tell me what has worked for you and what engine you have?

Ken is the man. I run the same prop, OFS4 on my 225, my buddy Smoky, was running it on his 250 before it was stolen.

Good lift, good maintaining slower cruise before dropping off plane, good reverse, just trim up to direct propwash under boat.

If you happen to break/bend a prop blade, ( hit something) you will not want to run the motor, the vibration of being out of balance could result in damage to the motor. If you have a spare you can do a swap and be good to go.

If that happens, is it pretty obvious? Does the engine sound different? I'm wondering if you could hit something and not realize that the prop was not right.

you will fee the vibration. Ive seen on low tides at westside in bodega launch ramps, people not noticing how low the water is and drop the motor too low and start up and wreck their props on the concrete pads.

Props can be damaged and you may not notice it. It doesn't always vibrate. it just performs differently. For example, the blades may not have the same pitch or cupping.
You can also 'spin' a hub but it is still firmly attached, it may be a tad off center.
I've had it all.

Sounds like I should make looking over the prop part of my water flush procedure. Sometimes I think having a boat is like a fire hose of info. Though you do make progress, I remember asking my fishing buddy for his lists, pre-at-house, pre-launch, launch, docking, post-dock-at-launch, post-dock-at-home. He just sort of laughed and said he used to have those. I wrote those all out and after a few launches I don't look at them any more, that stuff has become sort instinctive. But every day I learn something new.

to add..also the sound of the motor changes too i have found.
