Boat Lift Advice

I’m having a new dock and boat lift built as a first time owner and newcomer to coastal living. What advice does anyone have for sizing the boat lift for my Freedom 275 ? My math tells me a 10000lb lift should work - loaded weight around 8000lb. I just don’t want to be caught short. Would a 13000lb lift be excessive ?

Not at all. What happens if down the road you decide you want to upgrade boats from the 275, you have a lift inplace that could handle it.

Agree with Ky Grady. it's not excessive when it's the only thing holding your boat.

To Compare: I have a Marlin 300 weighing in around 12,500. My lift is 16K.

Always overbuild, whether it's lifts or trailers. it isn't that much more for the protection & peace of mind.

One more thing..If your lift is new and your on the coast, spray it off when your spraying your boat down.

Concur with going with the larger lift, plus be sure it has zincs on it, and check/change them every 6-8 months.

I suggest you spend the little bit of money to upgrade to the 13k lift. I've had 3 lifts over the last 30 years. A quality brand 10k lift that held my 273 Chase showed signs of stress. I replaced it with a 13k lift and felt much safer.

If it’s a good lift your installing the difference in price of a 10k to a 12 to 14K should not be awful. I’m in the lifting business, and you never want more more than 80 percent utilization.
