I received a flier from Costco yesterday and saw that there is some sort of deal between Costco and Boston Whaler: Special pricing and other incentives. This could make going to the store an expensive trip. Will we see Grady's in the warehouse soon? Is this the future of boat marketing?

Let's hope not. In the bicycle industry brands that shifted from bike shops to big box retailers lost their reputation. in the bike industry image, quality and so forth drive the serious cyclists. Mongoose bikes in the 80s for instance was a leader in bmx and mountain bike design. Now, their bikes are junk and you can get them at Walmart.

If Grady heads this way, let's hope it is a store I would enjoy actually going too like Best Buy, any outdoor store or perhaps a Victoria Secret.. lol ....just sayn.....

All it is is a marketing venture.

Every Spring the Costco's here in Atlanta have a big parking lot "boat show". The boats are always Sea Rays, provided by Marine Max, and Costco Members get Special Pricing. (I think its another $500 off and maybe a CG package, etc...)

Given that Sea Ray and BW are both part of the Brunswick family, maybe they are showing BWs in Costco's near the coast? The flier (I got it last week) said select Costco stores only.

wouldnt it be simpler to just tell costco members if they buy a whaler from your neabry dealer and they show their card, they will get $500 off? It is a win win. Then again I am assuming a local dealer is not involved in the promotion.
