Really have to check with marinas and other folks in your area. Many variables and local differences.
No perfect answer.
To an extent, the actual water characteristics ( high growth, barnacles, slime etc) affect choice. So does you boating habits, like frequency of use. Is the boat slipped all year? What kind of paint is on it now.
Ask your boating friends who boat where you do, what they have had success with.
In general there are two types of paint; hard coat and ablative (sometimes called soft paint). These paints also come in water based formulas which are less smelly and easier to wash off your body and a lot easier to clean your rollers or brushes.
Hard paints tend to build up thicker layers over time but may be better suited for certain conditions.
You can not apply hard paint over ablative without the appropriate prep.
It is important therefore to know what the existing paint type is. If you dry the hull and rub the bottom with a clean white rag dampened with acetone and a lot of color comes off on the rag, you can be pretty sure the paint is ablative.

In the Bay Area it’s quite salty and gets a fair amount of growth and the best here is Trinidad. Priced as liquid gold

I would rather say "less expensive" than "cheaper"

Also some paints when applied must be launched within a specified period of time or they also need to be reactivated.

I have been using hydocoat for the last few years. Very happy since switching to it from traditional hard oil based paints. It applies nicely, cleans up with water and hold up well.

You are in NJ. Even if you are a die hard fisherman you will pull boat from Dec to April. Use Ablative. That way you are not under time and weather constraints to paint and launch after painting.
West Marine CPP (made by Pettit) will work well for you.
If you are way back in a brackish canal you might get 2 seasons with touch up.
Next step up if after season you find you want better is PCA or the Pettit Odyssey which have more copper than the CPP.
For gods sake buy it during their big sale and don't pay list price!
