Was taking boat from Beaufort to Lexington NC today. Had pulled oversized load permit for 13 6 inch clearance. 10 miles from house and lost radar to bridge. The bridge had unmarked clearance of 13 ft. NC dot seems have no clue. Seem this happens a lot. Well will have to see what insurance says. Could of been worse.

Sorry to hear. I have a Voyager 248 and tow back and forth to Southport NC to Greensboro NC. Have the same issue with a bridge on US 70 just to the east of downtown GSO Less than 14 on one side and the other 13.6? I have always gone up the off ramp and down the other side. Always had the fear of hitting. Sorry to hear i bet the insurance will cover?
Good luck

So sorry to read this.

I would think insurance should have your back here since it's clearly the Hi-way Dept or States misrepresentation. It may take some haggling, but how could they not reimburse you? They can hardly expect you to stop at every bridge with a tape measure.

Sorry to hear that - must have been an awful feeling in your stomach when you heard it.

I would be proactive on this and get back to that bridge ASAP and take pictures, document the date that you are taking pictures, etc. Anything and everything you can do to show it's unmarked.

Agree with DennisG01. I expect the state authorities have no incentive to help you out unless there is overwhelming (as in publishable) evidence of their incompetence. Good luck trying to make an insurance claim.

NC DOT won't do a darn thing in terms of fixing the damage. Been through that with a moving truck I rented and an improperly marked bridge in Durham, NC. Insurance fortunately covered the damage. DOT cared about it so much that the bridge remains improperly marked - 5 plus years later. Good luck!

Thanks for the impute. I stopped acouple miles from bridge on Hwy64 at a friends tire shop. We all laughed went back took pics and picked up the mess. I have towing insurance, it should be covered. The furuno system is old so a replacement is doubtful. It Any time I have had a claim they have been easy to work with. Brought it home to update interior, reseal threw hulls, little engine work cleaning ect. Two more months and back to the water :dance I will post Boat US response to claim.
