Boat US will tell you that your marine insurance is issued by CNA. CNA is owned by Allstate, a fact that I just learned today. If I had known this when I was shopping for insurance last year, I would not have purchased insurance from BoatUS. If you're from the east coast, you may remember the news stories about Allstate not paying claims to homeowners in NJ / NY areas that were hit hard by Hurricane Sandi. I don't plan on indulging any dangerous habits on the water next summer, but I am moving on from Boat US. It would be nice to know that your insurance company will stand behind you.

I'm going on past experience and past experience with Boat US has been good.
That said, it will be interesting to see what my renewal (which occurs in March) looks like. I too got the letter from Boat US warning me of an increase due to Sandy....

I have been using Markel https://www.markelamerican.com/Products ... lBoat.aspx I have no affiliation except being a client for my 03 Marlin 300 and they have been reasonably priced. They handled a claim for a stolen trailer a few years ago also without any grief. I am up here in MA and have not been affected by the storm, but they might be worth a look for you.

My policy is $1050 this yearfor an agreed to value policy for the amount I paid for my 2006 Marlin, $177K in total. The breakdown is as follows $143K on the boat and $34K on the outboards with a $2K total deductable. It is underwritten by Travelers. I was told at the time that this was the best type of policy.
It has been pretty stable price wise for the last seven years ($920-1,050). I'm told if it is a total loss that is the amount paid period.
Hopefully I never need it. The only question I had a couple of years ago was the amount. As the boat ages, should I adjust. He said not to worry, they will adjust it over time, which has not happened yet.
I'd be interested in what others have to say......
