Cleaning the dark blue rubrail

I usually just scrub mine with boat wash and a soft brush. After its clean I put on a coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant. That brings back some of the luster and adds some protection.
 
I will occasionally use Acetone to clean the rub rail and it works OK for me. I believe that you are actually stripping away some of the old rub rail to reveal the cleaner blue layer. Obviously if you did this too often it wouldn’t be good, but that rub rail is pretty solid and I think that I’ll end up replacing mine before it ever gets stripped.
 
Thank you all for the info, I have tried Mothers, Back to Black in the past and it looks ok but does not last.

I can't say the protect all will last along time. I only actually do my rub rail once a year in the spring. You may find you'll need to apply it once a month or so. But it is so quick and easy to apply, you won't care. Like I mentioned before, spray on, wipe off. That's it. It's by far the best product I have found for plastic. It's somewhat on the order of Plexus, but I feel it is far superior to Plexus. Costs twice as much as Plexu though. But once you use it, I think you'll agree that it works great. Protect All and Sea Foam. Perhaps my two favorite products.
 
I just did mine with Spray Nine and a white scotch brite pad. It came out great, removed all the wax spots and brought it back to a dark blue color.
