Good morning, all. Haven't been on in a while. Hope fishing season going well. Have any of you tried this hull cleaner before waxing? How hard is it to remove? Guaranteed aching shoulder at day's end or not too bad? Am curious before I try it. Thank you.

Collinite makes fantastic products (in the USA, too) and has excellent customer service. The 920 does a great job of cleaning the hull and 'smoothing' the hull in preparation for wax. It's a light compounding product so it does require some effort, but it's not "over the top" hard, or anything like that. I usually use a wheel, anyways... so no "Vitamin I" is needed!

I use the 920 every year and follow it up with Meguiars Marine Wax. I think both are the easiest to work with.
Shurhold has some videos on youtube. They have some nice products (pro polish). Buff magic looks interesting too.

This was the first year I used the cleaner and the wax and I could not be happier with the outcome. One thing I noticed after a long hot summer the is the boat is much easier to keep clean particularly the hull water scum line. I was swimming last week and went around the boat with a soft scrub pad and it looked as good as new. I am sold and will use both products every year.

where do you you get this Collonite

I work part time at a marina so I buy it from myself! But I think any decent marine store should have it. Try their website - I think they have a store locator. If that doesn't work, try calling them directly to find a local store. I've never looked online - maybe you can find it on Amazon, or something?

For what it's worth, their #885 wax is real bear to put on/off, but I have yet to find anything that lasts as long.

Re: Collinite Boat Wax Equivalent to Insulator Wax

I called Collinite once when I had nothing to do. The two waxes are equivalent. One is marketed for cars, another marketed for marine use. Smart people. I've used the boat wax on my truck and it came out beautifully and lasted most of the winter.

Which two waxes are you talking about? The #920 and #885 that we've been discussing are two totally different products? Or, are you referring to an automotive version of the #885? Which one is it? But, yeah, I use the #885 on my cars, too.

My understanding.....
920 is the cleaner. This will remove light oxidation, scratches and generally clean and prep the surface very well for wax.
925 is the liquid wax. Good stuff. Personally I think Meguiars Marine Wax is just as good if not better and easier to work with.
885 is the paste wax. Many feel this is the best out there. Personally I find it difficult to apply and remove and not worth the extra effort. But this is just me.
870 is called fleetwax. It is a cleaner and wax all in one application. Maybe ok for a very light clean along with a adequate wax job.

I used a McGuire oxidation remover, collinite 920 cleaner wax , then 925 wax. All 3with buffer on hull and topside, on a 1989 GW came out beautiful. That was in May, Still beads up! Also ,use a wash soap that doesn't wear away the wax.
