I have found a good deal on a Yamaha 250 ox66 but it is counter rotating. For a single OB installation, is there any down side other than perhaps more expensive props and or more expensive lower unit repair?

Nope. In that engine, the only difference between it and a standard rotation is the gear case. If it's a good deal, and the engine checks out, jump on it.
 
When backing down at slow speed your prop walk will be opposite of what you are used to. Other than that install and enjoy. I'm just letting you know in case you maverick into a slip in reverese, it will be different. jh
 
However, it doesn't mean you have to give up your hand in sale price negotiation - now that you are educated, if you know what I mean.
 
Had a situation like that one my boat once. Had a 150 Yamaha rebuilt as a 200. The higher HP required a different gear ratio and the shop switched lower units. Did not know it was CR until I put it in the water and tried to back off the trailer. Wouldn't budge because I still had the old prop. Shop switched props with me and never had any trouble after that.
 
Thanks for the advice and heads up on the reverse. I had not even considered prop walk being reversed. With the way slips are layed out and the crowds on weekends, I can easily embarrass myself if the tide is running and the wind blowing.
