Last year I was trailering my yacht to Florida to go fishing. Upon returning I stop at the Georgia welcome center on 95 and take the temperature of each hub using my IR thermometer. I was also checking for signs of COVID. I noticed the right rear trailer wheel running about 15 degrees F warmer. So I investigated and discovered my Kodiak caliper all wonky and the bracket sheared off and both stainless steel mounting bolts gone.

Since I installed the brakes I got angry at the manager and demanded a refund , warranty work and free chick fil a. I jack up the rig, get the caliper off of the rotor, tie up caliper and duct tape stuff for the ride home.

I am getting my boat prepped this season. So far I have replaced the helm, new scupper hoses, new fuel hoses, new GPS and do forth. Saturday I go to replace the caliper bracket , put new brake pads in and repack bearings. I am going to the Keys in July for 2 weeks. It is then I discover the brake piston is gone and I have virtually no brake fluid in the system. I knew my trailer wasn't braking right and I discovered why on Saturday. I ordered a Kodiak rebuild kit Saturday and will be getting all that dialed in this week.

I know Russ here has had a heck of a time with his boat and trailer. Stuff happens to the best of us. Sometimes I wish my passion was for stamp collecting or video games because I wouldn't have half the problems in my life that I do have. Lol.

I'd leave a poor Yelp review for the manager. You know - zero stars.

Seriously, we all run into it. I lost a brake hose...cut clean by brake debris. Didn't see it until I launched the boat and did a walkaround. And don't ever try to find one on a Saturday....

Glad all is well....

Crap happens for sure. I'd call out the shop so we all would know not to use them for brake work!!!

2 weeks ago in the lake, hit submerged something, probably stump or log just under the surface, never saw it, and snapped off the corner of lower unit. Didn't think I hit that hard, evidently I did. The scuff mark below is from same impact. It has since been repaired and repainted.

If I was on THT,,, it would have been a shipping container that fell off a cargo ship during a storm,,,,, even though it's a freshwater lake behind a dam in Kentucky. It has to be more dramatic than just a log by THT standards.

White marks lead me to believe it's concrete...maybe a cinder block?

Or maybe you just forgot to tilt the motor up while trailering???? o_O

It's Lake Cumberland, Parth..I don't know how Lanier is, but Cumberland an obstacle course in the spring. The Corps start releasing water out of Wolf Creek Dam, the lake level drops and the debris ultimately washes to the banks. By July 4th, it's in fairly good shape.

"Till next year...

Whatever it was looks to be a submerged fixed object. I would think any free floating log wouldn't have broke off a piece of the lower...Glad it's fixed.

Magic,,,,over 100' deep out in middle where I was running. Junk was all the way across, not just along the banks. Was fairly clear in the area when I hit. Who knows?

Nothing quite so dramatic (yet, keeping my fingers crossed) but I do have a dedicated "Wall of Shame" out in the barn where I hang reminders of mistakes I've made. It's good to laugh at oneself on occasion while enjoying a cold beverage with a buddy and telling some of the stories.

I too am having fun with trailer brakes. Other than newer engines, most boat and trailer systems are engineered and manufactured with early 1980's automotive quality and robustness. 5 years from now boat builders will wonder where all the customers went from the 18-21 boat boom. They went broke having to pay someone else to replace $h!t parts on their boats and trailers!
Sorry, I've gotten a little salty.;)

Did similar on Father's Day, I hit submerged rock (found out later on chart) Nicked up my prop and scratched an already chipped skeg. Luckily I had the motor raised up some and was going slow. Was coming back from a shallow beach area.
