Crazy Yamaha F200 Question

I was day dreaming about warm weather and I checked out the yamaha website. I checked out the F200 - F250. (I have a F200 on my 208) I looked at the specs of the F200 and F250 and the displacement, compressions, RPM range, in fact except for the weight they are the same. The F225 is identical to the F200.

What gives the F250 50 more HP?

I believe on of the differences is the valve train. I may be wrong, but I think the F250 uses a variable valve train (changes duration for higher rpms).

F250 also has a single throttle body, VCT.

Crazy: F250 has a very different exhaust system as well. From what Yamaha says, the similarities between the F250 and the F225/F200 end with the engine block.

Oh yeah, the oil filter is more of a bear to get out without spilling on the F250.

And, according to Yamaha, the difference between the F200 and F225 lies in the intake manifold. The F225 can suck in a bit more air. When you look at performance specs on Yamaha's website, there is, frequently, but not always, little or no difference between an F225 and an F200.

Do both the F250 and the F225 run on the same octane gasoline? Mercury used to get more horsepower out of their engines by just requiring premium fuel in the higher horsepower motor.
What octane does the F250 require?

Chris: Good question. The F250 requires 89 octane whereas the F225 requires 87 octane.

I have the F200 and with an Adventure 208 and I feel it is the best combo. Must be a lot of magic under that cover and with gas at $3 a gallon, I'm glad mine uses 87 octane.

Also the F225 is actually 208 hp at the prop not a true 225 so dont be fooled
