Deck paint on the back of a 2002 330..... BUT WHY?!?!?

Hello All!

I am looking at upgrading boat and came across a 2002 Grady White 330. The vessel has been boat house stored since 2015 when the second owner bought it from Florida. It was re-powered with 2015 Yamaha 300's that only have 100 hours as the owner just doesn't use the boat. The boat isn't completely spotless and mint but it is in pretty good condition for the year. Only some minor things like cushion snaps need replacing. The price is good but it needs some things like a generator and a kicker to get the boat to the state that I want it for fishing and the type of boating I do in the PNW... The only thing that concerns me is the back deck. It seems to be painted over with a deck paint and I am unsure why and so is the broker. He says the current owners bought it that way... I was thinking I could cover it with Ultra Deck but I want to make sure this isnt a sign of a bigger problem. I will hire out a complete survey before purchase as well as a mechanical inspection but wanted to ask on here in the meantime. Any advice is appreciated! Pics attached below!

Admittedly no expert here... maybe someone took a DIY approach to redoing the non-skid flooring and that's the resulting product/outcome?

If they had to re-do the non-skid there are not many options. Not practical to diamond non-skid like factory.
I would get the inspection ports up and look at the fuel tanks. See if they have been replaced. Also check for plywood glue oozing out on top of tanks from a wet hatch.
Then its possible the previous owner didn't like the GW factory finish.

It could be from a repair... but chances are it's simply because the owner had wanted more "grip" In the cockpit to keep from slipping.

Could have been done to seal that deck hatch. Chances are its soft (not a difficult job to re core) or to make the non skid work. I took on a similar 2002 project boat minus the 300's. Look closely at the scupper hoses. Check with your insurer i don't think that year was rated for 600 hp. I have the same boat with 225's. Fuel tanks, wet transom, side hull core rot under the vents on the rear port and starboard are the big uglies.

You should be far more concerned about thru-hull penetrations and related hoses. Look at things that you can't see standing on the deck. I would get a survey done and go with surveyor's report for condition and price. I owned a 2007 Express and it was a solid boat.

My guess would be to improve the gripe of the non-skid. I had an 02 265 which after 10 years or so the factory non skid was pretty worn from use and coolers/ect. sliding around. Not necessarily a red flag, there are other things I would be more concerned about with a 22 year old boat.
