Got my hatch for the rear deck plate and installed it. Prior to install sprayed the plate with gelcoat. My color match is horrible, added way to much beige to try to achieve off white. Would have been better off with no added color. I would like to recoat but on the last spray coat I added wax to the gelcoat. I know you are supposed to sand off the wax but since it is diamond pattern no skid I do not think I can do that. What alternative is possible at this point? I have read Dawn soap scrub, or Acetone wash but am looking for some advice/experience please.
thanks

You can get new deck plates from Beckson - that make them in a variety of colors.

this is not a pie hole but a 2x4 foot deck plate

Id leave it for now. Let it weather in and then try a plastic primer and paint. Primer is INSL_X STIX. Then get some color bars from your paint store, match it up and paint.

A scothpad or a stiff bristled brush will work. It doesn't take much to get the wax off.

Always always always do multiple tests/trials with gel coloring - like paint, the dried color is different than the wet color. Label each test with exactly how many drops of each color you use and the amount of gel you use so you can do calculations and then exactly match that for the larger/final amount.

The above is why I don't do gelcoat color matching :)

Does Spectrum Color not have your pre-made gelcoat color?

oh ok so you gelcoated the deck hatch and installed a Tempress hatch into it. You were talking about that in another thread.

Just get a scrub brush and warm soap & water and then scrub with acetone and gelcoat it again.

You can use a dewaxer and a stiff brush. also note that you can lightly sand the raised surface for a better bite. The recessed portion of course wont get sanded but it also doesn't get as much wear. The dewaxer should be fine

Scrubbing with brush on right angle drill and acetone wash seems to have worked so far. Now thinking of restoring the helm chairs. I have new cushions but want to paint or gelcoat the arms and base. Looking for advice.

Chair is plastic. don't gelcoat. You might find some special paint for plastic but I think Rustoleum says "plastic"
I think it will scratch off though under normal use.

Try cleaning or covering.
