Did anyone ever hear of or see a diesel outboard

Great torque and fuel efficieny with the diesel outboards. Drawback is weight, ~25% heavier and at least with the Cox idle speed is 5 mph due to large prop size.
 
Mercury makes one as well. I think they only offer one model at 175 HP
 
The COX motor in the article is 300hp.
 
Why I asked I was I a boat yard a week or so ago and I came a crossed one very interesting I had a Ken worth for 30 years owner operator and never heard of one
 
Cox 300HP turbo V8 diesel. Looks great for commercial high-hour usage. Big drawback is the cost....55k MSRP and 54% heavier than a corresponding Yamaha F300

There’s 2 currently that I’m aware of, COX and OXE. The positives are efficiency and lifespan, the drawbacks are weight and price so they are mainly targeted at the yacht tender (to save from having to store gasoline as well as diesel), and commercial (coast guard, govt etc) applications that run them almost 24/7, 365. I’m not an expert but just what I’ve seen and information I’ve heard around the docks and talking to mechanics.

As a guy who owns (or owned) a diesel flatbed, 2 diesel tractors, a diesel excavator, and a diesel van, I'm a huge fan of diesel engines. But as Billy said, they are heavy engines. Not for small boats unless someone has worked some magic.
