On my Grady White Project this last winter one of my tasks was to refinish all of the wood on the boat. This piece was on the boat when I got it, so I refinished it along with all of the other pieces. But I confess that I have no idea what it does or what it is for.

As you can see, the piece is made to fold in and out. It has a round notch and a vertical peg at the outermost point.

There is nothing fore or aft of this piece when it is folded out that would give me an idea what the notch or the peg are for. It is located 6 inches or so behind the mount for the outriggers shown on top of the gunnel. Anyone have any idea what this is for?

Thanks for any ideas or info.

If the boat has a soft top, maybe it holds the frame when the top is folded aft???

Where do you store your outriggers when not in place on their bases?

I like Bob's answer. I also see what looks like a step pad just forward of the step up to the walk-around passage. Might that be where the more forward end of the outrigger pole would lie?

In any case, nice job finishing it!

It is either for the canvas or for the outriggers, I'd go with outriggers because who honestly would want their soft top folded back into the cockpit rather then having it forward and out of the way? What would you gain by having it fold back, unless it was a top for just the cockpit. If so, you'd find the hardware for that as well. Looks like a good way of storing rigged outriggers to get a head start on the days fishing.
