My 2001 Islander has 200 HPDI motors with the original Yamaha gauges. I had a overheat alarm go off during idle last week and after diagnosing I found both motors are linked together. If one alarm goes off it sets off both alarms. Is this normal rigging?

This would be a pain to be offshore and have trouble with one motor and have to listen to the alarm all the way home. It also makes it a pain to diagnose.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I believe that is normal. I remember seeing something about that in the manuals for my OX66s. Both alarms should sound (and I think RPMs get limited on both) until the overheated engine is shut down.
