Hey Guys/Gals

what canvas/vinyl material is on your enclosure ? Stamoid or other ? And what color ? Ivory or white ? What does GW use other than the dark blue/black.

I’m having my Marlin redone and the current color appears to be an Ivory or sort of cream not white.

installer is also recommending a Mahler marine fabric over Stamoid ?
Says stamoid can discolor along bottom edges over time ?
 
GW uses ivory stamoid currently with strataglass. In the past it was dark blue sunbrella type with eisenglass.
Give Lee A&J canvas in vanceboro NC a call. Did it last year for $2800 complete for all 9 pieces with the strata and stamoid. If you have the originals send them down as templates. If not, they likely have templates already. I've had no discoloring at the bottom edge. stamoid is great as the wax like covering actually makes cleaning easy and resistant to stains. I got 12 years out of the first set. Still looked good, the thread was the issue.

Thread seemed to be one of the issues with mine too. The guy who quoted my replacement set uses Gortex thread and strata glass. He recommended another material in place of the Stamoid which he is going to show me Friday. I thought he called it “Mahler” but I’ll be damned if I can find it anywhere.
 
Never heard of Mahler, but maybe it is a good alternative. Maybe ask Lee about it and get another opinion on the material. Ask her about the thread as well. I had most of my pieces restitched the last 4 years, was something like $60 a piece at a local canvas shop. What is the price in your area? I had a hard time finding anyone in the NE to do it for what AJ did it for.
 
A&J did mine as well for my 228, went back original with the navy blue and Strataglass. I would reach out to Lee and talk with her. Some of her patterns were lost in a flood years ago so you may have to send your old ones to her. She's very good to work with if you want to make a little tweak here or there on your enclosure.
 
Fish... I had obtained a couple quotes here in OC, both using strata glass. The guy using the Stamoid as the canvas material was off the charts with a price of $5900. Apparently they were too busy as he said they were 4-6 months out when he hit me with that number (probably after a hit on the crack pipe). Another shop came in at $3300 which I thought was reasonable, using Strata and this Mahler with Gortex thread utilizing a Costa track along the top of the windshield. Another guy I spoke to over the phone ballparked me at $3500 based on a Marlin he had done recently

Ky... my old curtains were coming undone (threads). The drop curtains in the back look like they were replaced at one time and a previous owner had folded the curtains lengthwise creasing the strata glass ruining it. The fit was lousy and wouldn't present a good example or pattern for someone to copy, thus my need to go local and have all new made.
 
Still wouldn't hurt to talk with Lee. She could give you some insight on the direction you can go. She may still be able to use your existing enclosure to build from.
 
I would definitely give A&J Canvas a call, had to send out enclosure for our 305 Express to them since they had no pattern on file. They received it on January 18th and I just got it back yesterday. Talk about quick service but unfortunately I can put it up just yet but i did look at it and it looks great. Went with the Ivory stamoid.

I can only relay my experience. Price was very good. Delivery was super, in large solid tubes that cost a lot to ship (~$80 if I remember) - their cost. You can send yours in a small box (wrap up tight) for about $18. Paper between them all to ensure no scratches. I did have to put the lift the dot receivers and snaps on to ensure alignment. AJ provided the tools free of charge. It was pretty easy to do.
I returned the tools and have had no issues to date. Just providing the lead as I really couldn't find a lower price locally. I'm sure local shops can do just as good a job and it would be turn-key and likely installed by them the first time. Good luck whatever path you pursue. I'm sure you will be happy with the outcome. If you go with Strataglass, everyone says use the Inmar cleaning and polishing products. I've use the Inmar products and they appear to work well. No scratches at all. I used the 2 step Meguairs for the Eisenglass and had excellent results but will follow the manufacturers recommendation.

I can't see why your local guy would have any objections to clarifying what material he recommended, so that you can do some research on an unfamiliar product. If he does,............

Nothing on this list is close enough to have been mistaken for Mahler.
