Engine Cowling Decal Removal Woes

Read a bunch of post and tried everything and rear decals will not come off. I tried and eraser wheel, heat gun, plastic razor blades and an arsenal of solvents. They are so baked on that they are one with the paint. It’s almost like they are fused into the paint from an atomic blast. In the spring I plan on sanding them off and repainting the whole cowling. Been reading some post to ID the Yamaha paint code. I read that the cowling part number’s last two digits are the paint code. The cowling part number for my 2006 Yamaha F200FTX is 60L-42610-01-8D. Based on that, Yamaha paint 8D which is called Dark Bluish Gray #1 is the color code. My engine cowling appears to have some metallic in it. Does the 8D have some metallic in it? The 4D code is called Dark Bluish Gray Metallic #1. Can anyone confirm the correct paint color for the cowling? Thank you.

It amazes me that the manufacturers make these so difficult to remove, I tried to remove a warning label on the top of the cowling of my Suzuki but gave up in fear of removing paint in the process. Yet the body side mouldings on my Chev Silverado are falling off again.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I've heard that "Goo Gone" has a very good reputation with their products and they make a couple of them specifically for taking off tape and old stickers. For less than $10, I can't imagine it would hurt to try it, and it certainly shouldn't break the bank.

I just finished up my old 89 cowling with 08D and it definitely has some metallic flake in it. The pictures don’t show the metallic well but that’s your color. Good luck!

Try Colot Rite for paint. They are very helpful and know Yamaha paint colors. I got some last year for a scratch on one of my 2017 Yamaha and it was a perfect match.

Wondering if you could use a furniture stripper product. It may take the original paint off so test in a discrete area. Mine look crappy as well. Will be following the thread.
Not sure why they don't do a better job with material selection on these stickers as it is advertising on one level. They should investigate a raised plastic that can be more easily removed/replaced.
