I have a 1991 fisherman with a 2 stroke yamaha, which normally runs very well. However, when I went to accelerate to my cruising speed the other afternoon, the engine stuttered at first and I could feel a significant lack of power. I slowed the boat down and put it in neutral, and then very slowly, accelerated to my cruising speed. I thought my problem had been resolved, but I was mistaken.
I ran up to my fishing spot and shut off the motor.
After my drift, I went to start the motor, but it would barely turn over. My first instinct was to check the battery, but both had sufficient power. It took me several attempts and I had to re-prime the fuel ball in order to finally start the motor.
Once I got it started, I got to about 10-12 knots before the motor cut out once again. It took me another 5 minutes to get the motor started yet again and at that point, I slowly accelerated and everything seemed fine.
I ran the motor for another 20-30 minutes following my mishap and it ran well, but I am not feeling very confident with the motor and I fish too often to have this inconsistency.
I would like some possible solutions to this issue.
Some have suggested a good dose of Startron and Ring free to dissolve any performance inhibiting contaminants.
I am "all ears" for your advice.

Thank you in advance!!

It sounds like you have water in your gas or your carb needs to be cleaned. The boat will run at idle and lower rpm's but won't perform when you put a load on it. Install or replace your fuel/water seperator, "shock" your fuel, run it down as low as your comfortable and put in fresh gas.
Did you have a spring tune-up? Did you change your plugs?

The motor is a 1991, 150HP. I had all of my plugs replaced in late April and over $800 of service performed on the motor.

repriming the fuel bulb means
-you might have an air leak
-you have a bad fuel pump
-carbs are leaking
