Engines up or down ?

Today’s dumb question. When leaving the boat for extended periods, is it better to leave the engines in the up or down position? I have twin 200s. Thanks

In the water mine are always up after flushing them, On land they are always down. I have read that when in the water in freezing weather they should be in the water to prevent freezing.

If you keep them down, you will have marine growth inside the motor. Never do this and run away from anyone that says it is ok to do so. Always bring up and flush if you can.

I should have been more specific. My 275 is on a lift in a boathouse so I guess down is ok??

If out of the water, I'd say down is best.

Agree with all of the above but, as you are on a boat lift, I would exercise the engine lift/tilt periodically since it would always be down when stored and mostly down, except to trim, when in the water. Things that go unused tend to not work when wanted. Just my 2 cents...

agree with all.
Its the end of the season here in NJ...stretching it out for some Striped Bass fishing...
when freezing temps possible leave down in water..2 reasons...

-water is 50 degrees, keeps engines 50 degrees

- Down drains water from engines so it won't freeze

unfortunately, the marinas have to shut off fresh water to docks so there is no washing or flushing til the boat goes home...
