Time to Repower

1,) 2010 Etec 300 with new powerhead. One year warranty on powerhead only. 1000 hours on the rest of the Etec.. Comes with cables and harness and prop. Need control box and gauges.

2.) 2013 Etec 300 with 300 hours. Full factory warranty until 2/19. No nothing. Need everything.

Grady White Gulfstream 1995

Difference in price is $6000 more for option 2. In both cases less than $10,000 for new G2.

Am I wasting the money if I go with option 2 or do I go with option 1. Please let me know what you would do and why. thanks

Option 2 would be my choice assuming that you have verified the warranty and who is offering warranty ( Make sure that if manufacturer, the warranty is transferable.
Does price include installation?

I'd go with choice 2 as well but might be tempted to see what kind of a deal I could get on a G2. There was lots of excitement about them at the boat show this year and two dealers who sell both Yamaha and Evinrude told us that Yamaha is worried about them and putting additional pressure on dealers and builders to not offer them. One was Sea Hunt, who last year had boats with both E-Tecs and Yamahas on display, this year, they only had Yamaha on display. The single Sea Hunt with an Evinrude was "restricted" the Evinrude area of the show.

If you are anywhere near Barnacle Bills in NJ, you could sea trial both (and he has a Gulfstream):

You'd get some of the money back with the improved fuel economy and higher resale down the road when today's engines will be considered obsolete.

It's always a bit of a gamble being an early adopter of new technology, but the 7-year warranty should help some in easing those concerns.

Too funny. Before I saw your reply I called barnacle bill. I did not buy a new g2 but I did buy his demo engine from his gulfstream. Installed and in water by snug harbor in less than two weeks. Fly by wire and it rocks. I went with his 2014 300 with 16 hours and a full 7 year warranty. 44 mph. I dare say it is overpowered. Love it
