Evinrude G2's / Marlin 300....Splash day!

Today was the day to splash the boat and sea trial the G2 re-power. The boat and conditions are :

2000 Grady White Marlin 300, approximate weight at test 10,900 lbs.
Twin 2015 Evinrude G2's ( 250 HP )

Fuel capacity : 306 gal. Fuel on board 196 gal.

Props: Evinrude RX-4 4-blade props

Conditions at sea trial : NW wind @ 20 mph, sea : 3' chop

I believe we can improve on this with trim adjustments as well as learning where the sweet spot is for a cruise speed. But I'm very pleased for a first run:

What I would like to see is how they look as well. I admittedly did not go to you tube. That instrument display os nice. Before owning multiple Yammaha motors I have always been a fan of the rude. It was what my dad had on his boat. Enjoy your new motors for a long time.

Unless something changed, Etecs are broken in on the dyno prior to delivery. No break-in required.

Congrats on those leading edge G2s! Great initial numbers, that will only get better with tweeking! Always liked Evinrudes back to my hungry 235! :goodjob

Fantastic numbers - congrats! That kind of fuel burn would add about 120 miles to my range. That's huge. I'm heading from St Pete to Marco, Dry Tortugas and Cudjoe next week. That would also save me about 170 gallons of fuel...

Wow - those look like Sailfish numbers, not Marlin numbers! I'm glad to see there is really some beef behind last year's G2 hype and am looking forward to seeing more...!

On the issue of break-in, BRP says "With the new Evinrude E-tec G2, there’s no break-in period. no instructions needed, just hammer the throttle and go."

I'm not sure I could do that to brand-new motors, however. I'd be tempted to go easy on them for the first few trips at least staying away from WOT.

I suspect break-in is handled in a way similar to the first-generation E-Tecs where extra oil is provided whenever the RPM exceeds 2000 during the computer-monitored break-in period. For my motors, I think that period was 2 hours where only the time above 2000 RPM is counted.

Also I got to know, do they tilt all the way out of the water???????
This is my only disappointment with Yamaha.

I have seen Tom's boat and he showed me how the engines tilt and come completely out of the water.
