Fenders....aka bumpers...the dock protectors. I have always called them bumpers, but God help you if you called them that and someone heard you lol

I generally do not stop what I am doing to pull them in till I am out of the harbor, would mean I am not at the wheel. If I have guests, I have them do it when we get off the dock and are clear of the boats next to us.

Easy to forget, hard to not know once you hit speed.

Actually, when a fender is bolted to a dock, it is a bumper. When a bumper is hung over the side of a hull, it is a fender!

Actually the AKA means "also known as" a reference to people call it what they call it :p

That is the point of why people always jump all over people who keep correcting the name.. heh (not you.. I am talking in general)...because who cares what they call it.. could be a whatchamacall it.. still does the job it is designed to do... and hence why people, to this day, keep asking what a fender is.. because they have their own name for it... and that is totally okay....

That being said, your clarification is correct, technically.. ;)

We have been invaded by a THT thread

I was just thinking about how much more I like this site than THT. I just took a guy to task in the thread over there about We made it home, some guy and his family had to get rescued by the coastguard, his boat flipped in the Gulf coast. Offshore.

And sure enough, of course some salty dog comes in and starts bashing the guy. So predictable, so irritating, and so not helpful. I told the guy so and said if you really wanted to help, why not post your lists, what you do at home, staging area, launch, out to sea, and reverse. And list all your safety equipment and why you picked that. That would be helpful; bashing people helps who exactly?

THT is just full of that crap and I hate it. This place is much better, it shows it is possible to nudge people in the right direction without making them feel small.
