Hey guys,,,been looking online at 228's Hope to get back into boating and going to see if a Grady is finally going to be a reality for me. Been a long time member, but never a owner.

What is the first year that 250's were available on a 228,,,I'm thinking '06,,, also have seen some '03-'04 with some very sun burnt arm rest on the helm seats,,are those available from Grady or Pompanette?

Might back down to a F225 in the '02-'05 years but really prefer the F250.

Thanks

I bought a new 2005 and it came with the F225. I think you are correct about 2006 and the F250. Sample size of one! Good luck in your search.

Yamaha came out with the 3.3 L F250 in 2005. So 2006 is the first year that you might find one on a Grady.

You can get new arm rests from Grady, but you need to go through a dealer. They are made for Grady by Pompanette. I had to replace a whole seat. The price was ridiculous.

2005 is the first year for the F250. At the time, the upcharge from the 225 to the 250 was nominal (if I recall, about $600 or so) so most came with the 250.

GW sold (and may still sell) a kit to glue replacement pads over the existing Pompanette pads that had an aversion to sunscreen. I think the kit runs about $100 or so.

Be careful with those 225's in the years you mentioned. It's imperative that you have the exhaust scoped for the dreaded corrosion. Thinking you might be better off with an F 250 for a few reasons if your can swing it...better power, no stigma of corrosion problem that can affect resale and, its a pretty sweet engine.

Good advice BayRat though remember, the F250's are not exempt from the corrosion either - just less so than the F225's. As to the F250, I had a 30+ year Yamaha mechanic say to me the F250 is the best motor Yamaha ever built. I'm into my 4th year on a pair of them (now at 830 hours) and I'd have to agree. There are F200's, F225's and F250's out there well north of 5,000 hours. Some even hit 10,000 hours!

Doc, not to highjack the thread but do you have a part number and/or model number on that helm seat. I hate to spend the bucks but the ones I have are not the most comfortable.

I agree the 06 model year. So good luck on getting the right boat. You have a Trophy or Seaswirl as I recall? You will appreciate the ride difference. Let us know what you find.

Had is the word. A lot of major issues happened in my life which lead to selling the Seaswirl,,mainly the passing of my mother,,went to a dark place called depression and got frustrated and sold out. Slowly getting my head back on straight and looking to getting back in to fishing and going to try and find a 228 Grady, preferably with the 250, not an immediate thing, looking for the right one.

Thanks to all those that have responded on my question.

My hand written receipt looks like it says 34559. That did not include the pedestal.

Give Grady White a call. They are very helpful.
