Hauled the 228 to my native state and went fishing out of Port St. Lucie, Florida. We fished for a few days and caught 5 good size dolphin and a schoolie. We lost two huge at the boat. We had three more break off during the fight. I love the taste of fresh caught dolphin and fishing for them is a blast.

So, I live in Western North Carolina. It's 12-13 hours to the Outer Banks from my place. To catch dolphin you're looking to go 35-70 miles off in many places in NC. I normally fish out of Port Canaveral, Florida. I can wet a line in about 18 miles off. Out of Stuart, Florida we wetted the line at 8 miles off! I drove 12 hours to get there.

I have only fished the OBX a few times but for the drive and distance to the Gulf Stream southern Florida is the ticket for us. Also, for the record, that is not me in the picture. It's my fishing buddy Ben.

Excellent!!! Love them Mahi.
We had great Mahi years in 2017 & 2018 in NJ. We caught numbers from 18 miles out to 90 miles. Had a 36 fish day in October out 40 miles on the lobster pot markers and we even had a Florida-style mile long weed line.
Fingers crossed for another good year...sometimes it just doesn't happen.
