Has anyone made modifications to their 222 fisherman transom?

Issue 1 - The transom gate is always such a pain and I always forget to put it down before trimming up motors. Inevitably i have to constantly move things around.
Issue 2 - When the motor is trimmed all the way up, it comes into the boat hitting anything that is against the stern (cooler, seating, etc.)

I am thinking about moving the motor back 12" using a jack plate but not sure how it would impact the ride and weight distribution off the boat. I have a yamaha F200XB four stroke.

Thanks!

The motor well can be a PIA. At the dock I am at, we have a dock box we put a lot of "crap" in and are able to utliize the center console space more for coolers, bags and stuff, ect. Thought....do you have the livewell on your leaning post? that turns into a great cooler for drinks, samiches, adult beverages....

not sure i have seen anyone do a jackplate.

If your transom is solid, I think that you would only find that you get better performance. Not by a lot - but can really only be better by moving the engine back. So with the benefit of fixing what your complaint is, this is really a win-win.

I don't think 12" should matter... but any issues with lengths of steering hoses, etc?

Now that I think about it some more, my biggest concern is how much it pulls the stern down when floating given it will equate to more weight. I'm guessing it's fairly negligible - especially since I have a 200.

Leave the motor where it is. Trim back the flip up gate so that you can leave the gate up and tilt the motor up too.

Here's a thread where someone did the same mod....
