Best replacement float switch for a 1996. 272 sailfish I want to change all my float switches most of them old and dirty

I replace mine with OEM. I don't need another project drilling new holes, etc. Same with pumps. Unless there is a serious problem that is worth my time. Too many other things that need my attention.

Good advice. Just monitor/test them reguraly. Install indicator lamps on the panel - it helps detect failures and to know when they are running.

Get the Ultra bilge pump switch and forget about replacing one again.
Ultra Safety System Bilge Pump Switch
I replaced the Rule float switch that came on my 226 twice over the first 4 years. The float kept sticking when running in a chop. The Ultra switch is very well engineered and eliminated the problem over the past 7 years. If you look this product up you will see lots of positive reviews. They are expensive but work flawlessly.

Whatever you do, don’t order a Rule knock off that looks like a rule on Amazon. The knock offs are junk. My rules work great. I keep them clean. One of them is 20 years old and works flawlessly.

How do you test that float switch Doc to make sure it's working??
There is an LED light on it that shows that it is getting juice. Once of twice a year I take it off the radiator hose clamp on which its mounted and turn it upside down. That lets the float ring slide down the center tube and turns on the pump.
You could also flood your bilge, I guess.

Ok,,, just checking. Flooding the bilge would probably be my way. To much work to take livewell out to get to it.
