Foam Around '89 Sailfish Fuel Tanks?

I am recoring the deck plates over the fuel tanks, and replacing the fuel tanks and lines while those are up. The guy doing the work said it looks like the tanks are partially foamed in. Has anyone else encountered this, and how did you remove the foam?

And did you replace the foam after the new tanks were installed? I am thinking "no" as it could absorb water and cause premature rot in the wood structures below decks.

replacing tanks on my 88 Sailfish , they were not foamed in and you don't want foam around them like you stated it will hold water and damage your new tanks. I am installing my tanks per installation guide at www.marinesurvey.com

that may or may not be an original tank. GW doesn't use foam now (you can ask them if they ever did) and as said, would hold moisture next to the metal. good luck, ron
