One of my deck screws is bottomed out but not catching on anything. It is creating a little flex in the deck under weight since the screw is not doing its job. I cannot easily get under the deck to see where the screw is supposed to catch. I am also reluctant to put in a longer screw because I do not know whether it might be over the fuel tank.Any ideas? The screw itself looks to be about 2 inches long.

Deck screw for what? Post a picture and a more detailed description of the issue.

Take out the screw. Fill with some thickened epoxy. Let dry. Drill pilot hole (put some wraps of electrical tape on the drill bit to desired depth for your screw) and rescrew. Or get a wider screw of the same length. I don’t think the flex is solely due to the screw though, that’s the effect not the cause. The cause is likely due to some deck rot in the core which many forum members have dealt with.
