Freezing Weather

If your boat is on a trailer or a lift, and you are in an area experiencing freezing weather, then you should open your seacocks (livewell, raw water, head) to allow any water trapped in the piping or hose above the seacock to drain out. If it freezes the expansion can rupture hoses or even the seacocks, and you won't know about it until you put the boat in the water again.

For those of us in slips, best to lower the engines into the water - it's warmer than the air.

A few years ago when we just bought our 228 I forgot to do this. In large part because growing up in Florida we just did not worry about winter. Anyway, I took my son fishing down on Lake Hartwell and low and behold, the wash down strainer was cracked from the freezing temps. Good tip and I learned the hard way.
