Fuel economy

I was hoping to get some feedback on what the average fuel consumption (gph) should be for :
1995 Yamaha 200 hp/2cycle. The engine has just completed 100 hour maint. including new carb kits, cleaned tank and running on non ethanol fuel only. The engine is pushing a 95 Grady 223 Tournament, lift kept, no bottom paint, no trim tabs.

I do not have any type of fuel management and have not gone through one complete tank(92 gal) yet.

A lot of my running is in the Intracoastal in SW Florida so it translates to many "no wake" zones and rpms between 1200 and 1700.

In areas of open water I do run at about 3200 to 3500.

I am just looking as to what I may expect for gph consumption. I am aware that the V6 Yamaha is not the greatest on economy.

You didn't say how much you weigh

Seriously though, there are so many variables, it is going to be more accurate for you to tell us what your fuel efficiency is than for us to tell you.

I had an '86 225 with 225 Honda. Over several years and 500 hours, my overall fuel average was 2.85 mpg. That includes many, many hours of slow trolling, many, many hours at 4200 cruising, very few hours above that, and everything in between. I doubt your 200 2-banger will do as well ...

I would be surprised if the Yami gets near that Honda number

Back when we had our '88 228G with the original 200 Yam, we "overall averaged" around 2mpg. When we went up to a Yam 225 OX66, it went up a bit to 2.2 or so.

To show the leap in technology, we now have a 27' Chase with TWO Yam 200 HPDIs. Average? 2.2mpg; amazing.

Just be conservative and allow 1 gallon per mile you plan to go and you wont ever run out of fuel...

It's a guess, but I'd expect you will be in the 1.8-2.0 MPG range.

I have fuel management tied into my Simrad GO7 on my 225 OX66....at 32 MPH and about 4200 rpm I'm getting 2.5 mpg. You are carb'ed and have 25 less HP, hence my guess.

In the example given by Parthery, he is burning about 12 GPH. I read a post that may or may not be correct but it said that a carbed 2 stroke will burn about 10% of the HP rating in fuel at WOT and about half of that at cruise speed.
For your 200, that equals 20GPH at WOT and 10GPH at cruise speed.
For my 150 SX, fuel injected motor, I usually run higher than the optimal cruise speed (4200 vs 3700 revs) and I use about 7 GPH so maybe the formular I mentioned is somewhat valid. But all these numbers are not cast in stone.
Load another person or two and see what happens to your fuel economy. Run on a half tank vs a full tank and see the different too. So many factors are in play. Wind, tide, bottom condition , gear, all make a difference. Basically, more weight, less fuel economy.
