Fuel intake issue Canyon 326

Hi everone,

i just got a 2023 Canyon 326 and unfortunately am running into issues with the starboard engine. Basically, the boat is running fine until the engine stalls, the primer bulb is depressed when it happens. By pumping it for several minutes, I am able to restart but it occurred 4 times during the trip. I contacted the Yamaha tech who inspected the filter and determined to knock out the brass ball. Then went out with the boat for a 5 hour trip, no issues the following day the engine stalled once again and yesterday it did it 4 times. Each time the primer bulb is depressed and it takes about 10 minutes to get the engine restarted except for the last time when the bulb was filled but the engine would not restart.
i have contacted GW and am waiting for their reply but would appreciate any advice you may have on how to solve this problem.

If only one motor is affected, it isn't a blocked vent but rather something specific to the individual plumbing for that motor. The dealer should figure it out, you shouldn't have to start messing around. One thing that could be tried is to use a portable fuel tank connected at the primer bulb or even after the primer bulb towards the engine. If the problem reoccurs, it is in the last section of hose into the motor or a component in the motor. If it doesn't happen, the issue is back towards the tank, and associated parts.
If possible, the simplest thing would be to swap the gas feeds to the motors at the engine side of the primer bulbs. If the problem moves to the other motor you know the issue is not with the motor and motor parts.
If the problem did move to the other engine, put the lines back to the original and then swap the hoses before the primers. It is possible that you have a bad primer bulb . That would be the simplest fix.

Taking a long time to re-prime tells me you ran the filter can dry. Fuel systems use vacuum not pressure so a "leak" will allow air to be sucked in instead of fuel. Make sure the filter can is tight (don't over-tighten). Replace filter cans even if they are new - a bad gasket or pinhole can cause this. I have also seen hoses that separated inside acting as diode valve but that was older boat.

I'm assuming two tanks. How are your fuel valves set? As SEASICK said try swapping tanks using fuel valves around. This is probably the easiest way.

I think the OP stated that the bulb was squished. If there were an air leak, the bulb would be soft and not collapsed. That is why I suspect a blockage of some sort

Since it is only one motor it is in that motors fuel line. Since bulb is quashed the blockage is between tank and bulb or in bulb itself. If there is only one feed that splits to three (two?) filters then problem would seem to be between inlet to filter and end of bulb. So either filter or bulb or looking at my diagram it of course also shows the anti siphon valve at the tank so if separate feeds to each motor then this could be a source of problem but if it splits after this valve and before filters then as said above. I do remember from past boats that this anti siphon valve has sometimes been causing problems.

Had similar problem on my 2015 336 Canyon purchased new. My issue - one engine (non side specific) would collapse the primer bulb for a few (10 to15) minutes then after awhile the other engine or the same would collapse the bulb again. A few more times, and then the boat would run great for a long while or that complete outing. This would continued nonstop. Grady was helpful with other warranty issues, but absolutely no help with this issue. After replacement, filters, all fuel lines, primer bulbs, removal of anti-siphon devices, and two fuel tank drain out and cleaning, all on mine dime, we finally found a small plastic disk inside the tank about the size of US dime.

I feel very fortunate that I finally found the small plastic disk, as would have had to replace the boat. I cross over to Bimini with my family and friends, and this problem made the boat dangerous and unsafe. BTW all my fuel is brought by me to the boat via fuel cans that are filtered and pumped into the boat. The most likely scenario, considering the makeup of the plastic disk, is that it came that way from the factory.

Therefore, I would suggest you consider your problem being some type of debris inside the tank. Good luck with your resolution.

Thanks for your insights, I am replacing the filter and fuel line of the engine posing problem. I hope this will fix it and it is not a debris in the tank.

you would be much better off swapping the fuel lines at the tank. ( no replacement yet, just swap pickups tubes.

Hi everyone
The problem is solved, in fact after changing the fuel line, we identified that the problem was coming from the tank.
There was a glove left in the tank!! Tough to remove..got it with a jig.. Now the boat is running perfectly!!

Glad to hear you were able to resolve the issue. Hope Grady steps up to the plate for you. They sure did not on my tank debris issue.

I can see the worker at the tank fabricaotr facility looking all around and saying, "Where did I leave my glove?"

And what is GW doing for you? Hopefully providing some financial compensation and a gift basket of fuel filters or useful spares.
