I have a 1990 seafarer. Repaired cover over fuel tank . At the same I decided to pull the tank to inspect it. It has some minor pitting where someone had used .125 x 1.5 strips of rubber underneath. I cleaned the whole tank with scotch brite then washed it down with acetone. Mixed up some marine tex epoxy and filled the pits. Then applied a coat of glyptal sealant. My question is why do you need anything under the tank if it rests on the factory blocks that are encapsulated In the fiberglass. These keep the tank off the bottom about .5 inches. If anything I’m going to use Delrin with 5200. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also called Grady so many times and no return call.
Thanks Gary

I used nitrile rubber strips 1/4" thick by 2" wide. 3M 4000 them to the tank. These strip are to insulate the tank from anything coming into contact with them that can trap water/moisture and cause crevice corrosion. Even if the tank is painted. Bottom, front, back and top mounting blocks.

Those old strips were self-adhesive strips attached to the tank at the factory that have since fallen off. You probably found most of your heavy corrosion where the tank set on it in addition to a million pinhole paint breaches.

Thanks. The tank I have is newer than the boat. The strips were only .125 thick. Hard to tell what kind of rubber it is.
