Fuel usage numbers, 282.

I have an 03 282 with twin 225 Yamaha 4 strokes. Been working on it since I purchased it so it has not been in the water yet. I was wonder if any one have some base fuel usage numbers. I understand there are a lot of factors such as weight/load, weather, etc. But just looking for a basic idea. Thanks.

My buddy has a 2011-ish Canyon 271 with twin 300s, he runs at about 1.9mpg. My 228 averages 2.2mpg. Both in the Pacific which almost always sloppy (I mention that because I've read reviews that claim the 228 can do 3.4mpg; yeah, right, not in our ocean).

I have the same boat (2003) as you with f225s. I cruise around averaging 28-30 mph getting between 1.3 - 1.7 mpg. All depends on load, conditions, etc. like you said but I have found that to be the sweet spot.

Same numbers here - 2003 282 with twin 225s. But as soon as you want to increase speed the gas goes fast. But as you say it cruises comfortably at 28-30 mph

I have an 04 282 now powered with F250's . The original engines were F225. Gas mileage is pretty close between the new and the old - 1.25 to 1.6 on an ideal day

I’m curious why you had to repower? How many hours did you have on the 225s?

2006 282 with 2016 F250's clean bottom 1.9mpg at 3400 24-26 mph. Dirty bottom it drops to 1.4mpg. Original engines were 3.3 F250's and did slightly less.

Same numbers here. I enjoyed 282 (and 252 before that) ownership for more than 20 years, and seas permitting, I always picked the best mpg sweet spot. That always was in the same 1.5-1.6 mpg, average. An amazingly comfortable and fishable boat. I still miss mine.

The 04 f225 had about 900 hours on them - they were great engines and never had one issue. I routinely Yamaha exhaust had the engines scoped for the exhaust corrosion and never had any signs of it. 2015 I got a call that both engines had developed it and it had spread to the powerheads. Could not justify 20K for repairs so I decided to go with the F250 4.2L. They are also great engines and they are really nice engines.
