No problem changing Data bar items but can't get to Nav bar items. Latest software. Tried everything.

The Date Bar boxes for GPS Speed, GPS Hdg, Heading, Depth, time of Day and GPS POS can be selected and changed.

The Nav Bar large box with Dist to Dest, Arrival, Off Course and Bearing will not allow selection and can't be changed.

Just finished a chat with Garmin. Apparently Nav Data Bar is fixed and cannot be changed.

Is that a change in software or was it always that way? Sounds familiar.

Is that a new software 1/2023? or the one at the end of last year?

I'll have to set mine up and look at it again. I pulled the dash from the boat. I have a spare Garmin power cable... connect to a jump starter.
Sit in my warm enclosed porch and mess with screens and waypoints.

Make sure you turn of transmit of Sonar if you are sitting in the boat on land.

Probably always that way - I never tried to change it. I upgraded everything to v30.10 yesterday. Didn't make a difference. Garmin came back to me quickly that the Nav Data Bar is fixed and can't be changed.

The Data Bar has boxes around each value. Touch the box, it highlights and you can select what you want to fill it. The Nav Bar is one big box and nothing is selectable. There is a Navigation button on the upper right but with options but doesn't help with choice of data.

If Garmin is only going to show me 4 values at least they gave me the 4 I need!

I hooked up the Garmin 1242 and updated to the 1/2023 latest
I don't think the update changed any of my custom data bars

The Navigation bar is a special function. It can be set to auto. That will make it appear when you are "navigating" to a Waypoint (GoTo) or a Route
The 4 things in the bar only exist if you are navigating to a waypoint. If you are not navigating to a waypoint you don't have Bearing or an ETA...
By having that special bar in Auto, you get those things to only take up space on your screen when they have data.

The NavBar Auto/On/Off can be (should be) configured for each screen setup you have.
You do need to be aware of that so the NavBar doesn't duplicate something you put in your custom bar.(or vice versa)

I have a custom Combo screen that I use when running offshore. I put some of the "navigation" data items on my top bar and turned the Nav Bar Off.
Same on the radar overlay and others...

In the pix, I have set a GoTo waypoint. In Auto, the NavBar pops up on the right side. If I "Stop Navigation" the Nav Bar turns off.

I Turn OFF auto for this combo screen and so won't take up space and duplicate things I already have.

I set this screen for navigating. The Upper left is Perspective and shows Heading Up. That means if the arrow and Bearing line are straight up, I'm going the right direction.
You can steer by that line.
The Right side shows me on the chart with North Up so I know where the F I am

The Nav Data Bar being fixed is OK. Not sure what else I would put on it anyway although there are plenty of other Nav items available.

North-up on all my charts.

I run my lower station 8612xsv in auto hide mode to use the space on the bottom for chart. I put my Data bar on the right for the same reason - get more plotting area on top of screen. Gives me more of a "square" screen. I don't find the width as useful as the height. It's a little bit of a pain to slide up and expose the Home bar but it's ok.

The upper station 8610xsv has more horizontal lines than the 8612xsv. I leave the Home bar exposed. I tend to switch this screen more often. Engines, stereo, radar, different sounder options.

I'm not using the combo screens right now. Just too lazy to setup. My runs in FL are short, daytime, good weather, etc. Mostly plot on lower screen and sounder up top. Finally got boat back together after the makeover last year. Been here for 2 weeks - three short trips. Going to get serious starting today.
