I've got a 1987 overnighter with a 40 gallin tank the stock gas tank i believe was 65 gallons. I'm looking to put a 65 back in it. looks like nothing is available out there that is a drop in replacement. I'm looking to get one fabricated I've gotten 2 quotes so far one was from a local fab shop in my area that quote was $3500. the second was from tankandbarrel.com and they quoted me $650. has anyone dealt with them before?

A custom aluminum tank around 40 gallons from SP Tanks in Clearmont, NJ would be around your $650 number and certainly under $1,000. Have a certified tank builder make it for you not just a sheet metal shop.

^^^ This 100% spot on. This is a job that you need a quality certified part for.

Be aware that depending on where you live and how far from the fabricator, shipping cab cost almost as much as the tank

Update your profile to show where you are located. It's helps others responding to your questions. There are good tank builders all around the country that can eliminate the shipping cost.

Grady White Customer Service might be able to send you a tank drawing for your model/year.

You might also want to see if you can buy a plastic tank that would fit your area. Moeller is probably one of the largest plastic tank manufacturers. Plastic generally lasts longer and has less issues than aluminum. In the smaller size you're looking for, plastic is quite common.

I agree with Dennis.
A plastic tank can be easier to install, lasts forever and is lighter (easier to handle)
Here is a link to the list of Moeller ready made tanks. There are many options, the hard part is picking the right model. ( OK its not that hard but you will have to fire up those neurons:))

Yours may be the FT8306S model but I am not sure.

thanks I checked out there website and looks like they make a stock 65 gallon tank that should fit . I emailed them and waiting to hear back. I'm out in California and I haven't been able to locate any local tank fabrication shops and the 1 quote I got for $3500 seemed really expensive for a 60 gallon tank.

the boat currently has a 40 gallon plastic tank I've checked out moller for a replacement but haven't found anything close to the 65 gallon tank I'm wanting. tired of having to carry 3-5 gallon cans when I go out looking for bluefin.

I think I was able to update my info as to my location. I'm new to the group and not to tech savy. I'm in California and fish the monterey bay.

Did you check out the link that Seasick looked up for you? Or, call Moeller and talk to them. Measure your coffin, drop a tank in that fits and go boating :)

Some (maybe all) West Marines carry Moeller tanks. If you figure out which one you need, you can check to see if WM can ship it to their store. That may save some money. I am not sure since I expect WM to be one of the more pricey vendors for the tank itself

I ended up ordering the 65 gallon tank from patriot marine fab $1500 for the tank with shipping not a bad deal
