Last night after work I went out to thoroughly clean my boat after spending a couple weeks in the Florida Keys. I washed her and started to put Collinites on by hand and I noticed something. At the point where the shape of boat begins to taper toward the bow and a few places along the bow you could feel the cross weave texture glass material under the gel coat. You cant see it at all, but you could feel it. The rest of the boat you could not feel a thing as it was as smooth as glass.

Does Grady, and I am going to call them too, use a denser or coarser glass weave in this section for strength? I bought the boat new last year as an 08 leftover and have never noticed this. In part because I have used a buffer in past wax applications and not my hands with a wax applicator. Oh, so far I like the results of the Collinites.

Called Grady and they said if you can feel uneveness in the gel coat, you should be able to see it to. I need to have the boat checked out for a warranty issue and perhaps ask the Grady dealer to check out what I am feeling.

the fabric under the gel coat shold be the same front to back on the outer layer....it's a thin spot of gel coat, so you're feeling whats underneath it.
