I just tried to buy a quart of Spectrum gel coat which is color matched to my boat and it was over $200. Are there any other options?

Thanks,
Patrick

You can make your own color matched gel coat assuming that you see colors! ( I am a tad color 'deaf')
There is a really good video on YouTube channel BoatworksToday. There are a lot of videos to search through and the video is a few years old I think.
That said, it was magical to learn how color matching can be done with the right materials and approach..

That wasn't so hard to find:) ( it was 8 years ago)
Note that since the gel coat is a laminating type, you can use your hull as the base for matching and then just wipe off the test samples.

I ordered Spectrum matched gel coat. My 1997 Islander 268 has bleached so much the color match is useless. Best advice is to go to a fiberglass pro. Have him paint it or give you a matched gel coat to DIY. I recommend letting a pro do it. Gel coat is not paint and there are lots of tricks to applying/curing it.

I'm caught up in this dilemma now with my boat. Lots of small jobs.

I'd say Hookup1 is spot on. The color will fade and blend in relatively short order.

I have been getting my gelcoat from Grady in the past when I had lots of restoration work to do. It was perfect match. I have a small section to fix in the next week or two so I just picked up a pint of white from West Marine off the shelf and will try to tint to match as best as I can. If I don't get it close enough, I will just order some more from Grady. The last Gallon I got from them many years ago was somewhere around $85 or so and not sure if they will send a quart, but that is all I would ask for next time.
