Hi, I'm new here. Just bought a 2000 Marlin. I would like to know if anyone here run their generators while running at speeds on the boat? I read in the owners manual that generators should not be run when engines are above 2500rpms? Thanks in advance.

I initially thought this to be true, but my dealer said it is fine to run the generator while running the boat at any speed.
You do need to start the generator before running the boat. Ensure the seacock is closed while running the boat if the generator is not operating as it could flood with seawater.

What you meant is we have to close the seacocks while running the boat at speeds with the generator running & seacocks open when not running the generator while boat is moving?

you should verify with GW. my genset has a pancake pickup. specific instructions from GW and FP are that the genset seacock should not be open while running at speed if the genset is off. the genset can, however, be run at any speed.

the type of pickup on your genset might have an issue at speed and therefore a different requirement (it should not be a forward facing clamshell, but even a reverse clamshell may result in inadequate water flow at higher speeds). like i said, verify with GW.

good luck, ron

yes. my bad. When the generator is not running - the seacock must be closed when the boat is running or you can flood the thing.
Just need to be religious with the seacock - only open prior to running the generator and after shutting the generator down - close it.
