Good luck with the restoration. I assume the model is a Saefarer:)
Other than the effect of the added weight of a pulpit, the extra length doesn't really affect performance very much since it is the length on the water and not the length overall that is a factor in performance. The added length of the bracket will have a lot more to do with performance and handling. The 2 stroke is lighter than a 4 stroke 6 cyl would be. That could be a consideration down the road if you repower. Note that max HP for a 1983 226 seafarer is 260 HP.

Look like you're making good progress!

Keep in mind it's still just a 22' boat - the other stuff that adds to the length doesn't matter. No, it's not underpowered at all. In fact, it should do REALLY well. The bracket will help performance, too. I have a 250HP on my 24' Offshore and it runs amazingly well.

Question... will mounting the speakers the way you are doing it allow water to enter the holes and then stay strapped, at least partially, between the fiberglass and the speaker... possibly even filling up the lower section of the speaker?

Wow, awesome project. It’s great keeping these classic hulls still up and running. 225 hp is plenty for this hull. I had a 92’ 228 with a 225 and it was perfect.

I thought about that and to solve that problem I sealed the holes with clear laquer. Will probably need to be done once a year as far as the speaker trapping water I don't have them right against the well I put a cpl washers in-between the speakers and the gunnel we will see how it works hopefully everything will work and function as I had planned. Time will tell. I just didn't want covers because they fade and crack and eventually break.

Good idea with the washers - creating a "drain hole", so to speak.
