I have a 1990 GW 252. Anyone know how to access the shower pump. I see the hose coming through the bulkhead adjacent to the shower. I am assuming that there is a pump down there since the hose goes up to the thru-hull. Don't know if it makes a difference, but I have a porta-potty, not a head. Really did not notice any access through the forward bilge area. Can not access the shower area from under the aft bunk. Have not taken shower apart yet. Many thanks...

Nice boat!

The shower drain sump pump assembly should be below the cabin floor removable cover, same way to access forwad bilge pump. It works just like bilge pump with float switch.

The shower FW pump is behind lower berth rear service panel, to the left looking in. Same pump feeds FW sinks. The other pump to the right is trim tab hydraulic pump.

BobP, I have not removed the forward bilge deck lid yet. I did remove the access port and only saw the bilge pump. Maybe it's hiding in there. The shower sump pump isn't under the shower floor? Thanks

It's under the forward bilge deck lid at the bottom of the stairs. The shower water drains into a pan which has a small pump.

Open the deck plate, and look to the stern, do you see the bulkhead at the threshold to the lower berth? Is there anything else up to the bulkhead besides the bilge pump? The cabin floor cover comes out in 5 minutes , take the screws out and knife line the perimeter seal, with deck plate open, reach in and pull up on cover, bias pull against one corner, presto it's out. Never bed that cover in place, just caulk the line after it is screwed in. GE Silicone II window and door, color of your choice. I use clear.

If not, do you see the black hose coming down from the floor drain in the head floor? Should be laying near bilge pump.

My boat didn't have the shower option, but I do see the flat base pad by the bilge pump where the sump pump assembly goes. I recall it being to the stern of bilge pump.

I'm upgrading this winter to hot water and the sump assembly already bought fits there fine, and the black hose coming from the head floor drain is already there. Just have to add power feed, thru hull and hose to it.

I would not believe Grady dumps the grey shower water into the forward bilge for the bilge pump to take care of. Heard of some sailboats working this way. Bilge must always smell like shampoo, I guess.

Perhaps the previous owner added a shower but no sump pump assembly.

You have near zero access to the area under the head, except from the starboard gunnel side, will be lucky to get your hand past the hull to enter area. I didn't consider cutting out the foam for other access from the stern side if possible. but Grady would have made the sump pump accessible for service, there is a filter screen in it to attend to. The port side is blocked by a stringer, the forward side is blocked by the floor in V berth ahead of head. Rear is blocked by bulkhead and/or foam.

If I ever have to get in the forward bilge again, I'm pulling that cover out and completely doing away with the inspection plate. The hole will get glassed over, gelcoated and diamond non-skidded. Perimeter screw holes will get filled and gelcoated. Lastly, I'll install some sort of nice hatch pull.

Why they set it up the way they did I'll never understand.

Don't worry, if you have the shower option (mine has it), its right under the access cover.

Thanks Grog, the top just snaps on the one I purchased, could be same model.

I guess the cover is if it goes some place other than bilge - can splash out on heavy seas. Don't matter in bilge.

He ought to see it thru deck plate cover, have to get his head all the way down to deck.

Pump Found

Thanks greatly to all. Removed the forward bilge lid and there it was... Just like you said :D . Hard to see thru the access port. But now that I know exactly where it is, I think that I can test both float switches thru the port. Thanks again.
