I am looking at possibly purchasing a 2000 Grady Tournament 22 and it has about 900 hours on it. It has a bracket on it with a 225 Yamaha. My question is should I be concerned about transom rot? What model years have wood in the transom? Was it switched to something other than wood in some models? Is there a way to observe damage from the outside?

Thank you for any help.

I have the same boat/motor combo and it's for sale. Have we spoken?

The answer to the question is you can get visual access by looking under the seats on each side. You could also get in there and feel around and look for rotten wood.

This model year GW used fully encapsulated wood in the transom guaranteed for life against rot. What you do want to look at is the condition of the bracket (for galvanic corrosion) as well as the inspection plate on top. If the bracket fills with water it will add a substantial amount of drag.

Feel free to PM me, or look at my ad in the for sale section if I can help. Good luck on your purchase.
