About to finish a deal on a sale (sea trial done, waiting for survey) and will be on the market for a used trailerable, immediately, as I cannot imagine life without a boat to work on and fish.

What year did the 22's turn to the newer SeaV2 hulls? 226 and 228.

At what year, if any, were they built to accomodate the weight of a 4 stroke, in the case of a possible repower, if needed.
My neighbor has an old 22 with grady-bracket and a newer evinrude 250 2-stroke and the scuppers are underwater, too much motor. I don't want to go there should I wind up with a clean and cared for but older hull.

I suppose the same questions for a 24 offshore, as they seem plentiful, and beam narrow enough to trailer. The 228's seem harder to find, although my preference.

I am guessing I don't want anything older than 1993??? My preference only.

Thank you guys for any help here. - Joe.

I think, but aint sure, the 228 hull was converted to a CV2 in the early 90s. You may want to call Grady on the 4 stroke vs 2 stroke design changes. I suspect given 4 stroke technology in big block motors in earnest occurred around 03/04, that any hull newer than this time would be designed for a 4 stroke. good luck with your quest...

Do you want a boat with a bracket or motor on transom ?

If you are looking for a Grady with scuppers above the water line, you may be wasting your time, even for a new one.

And if you are , why?

Hmm. Well bob, cockpits with scuppers below the waterline do not drain. And if you visit the grady website, they claim scuppers to be above the waterline, as they all should be. As most everyone knows, water will not drain UP. Not sure if this was a trick question or not?

Seems like your off to a rough start callin out Bob P on a gravity issue. Let me see if I can add a little clarity to the situation. I recently repowered and my scuppers are underwater. Before my repower the stain around my boat was in about the same spot. What matters is that the deck needs to be above the waterline. fortunately mine is and my underwater scuppers drain just fine. There are new Grady owners on this site with very expensive rides that came from the factory with submerged scuppers. Some of the redesigns to accommodate 4 stroke weight involved only raising deck height and scupper height. The outside of the hulls stayed the same. Do a search, the scupper height thing has been discussed endlessly. I'm just trying to say that I wouldn't let the scupper height be the decision maker. If an extra hundred pounds of motor are going to make that much difference what's going to happen when 4 anglers are in the cockpit and on the fish? Good luck with your shopping.

Alright thanks, will do a search and more reading. On most boats it is a red flag. What you are saying makes sense.
I will also ask my neighbor what year his 228 is. There is a 250 evinrude hanging on the bracket and scuppers are totally under water. Will ask him if he has issues with cockpit drainage. Years ago we did have a drainage problem with a 24 aquasport and don't wish to repeat history.

Hi, as you are including 24's in your search I would look hard at them. More of the 24's had twins so they can better handle more 4 stroke weight. They are about the same length as a 22 with a bracket. Find one with a single with the reworked scuppers and they will more likely be above the waterline. good luck...........
