Hi all, I am new to the forum and have bought a 228G seafarer with a honda 225 new last year in Western Australia. This is my eighth boat since 1994. I love this boat which is used mainly for fishing and travel to the fishing spots as far as 65kms away from shore and also for overnighting in various places. There is one very worrying problem which I have tolerated for quite a few months, continuing using the boat, so as to hoping to identify the source of the hard knocking and grinding noise coming from the bottom of the floor where the helmsman stands. This happens when the boat takes the impact of the waves on the front starboard quarter seas. The seas need only to be whitecapping to cause the scary noise. The noise sounds like a fairly large panel knocking the underfloor. Have any of you exrerience this problem?

That doesn't sound like a good thing.

The first thing that I would do is to remove the fuel tank cover and check out how the tank is secured.

Hi doc stressor, the boat was taken to a fibreglass boat repairer, under warranty, who removed the floor covering which is infront of the main fuel tank. We assume this opened section is for the installation of a secondary fuel tank. He made a hole large enough in the longitudinal stringer to facilitate him to stick his head in for inspection after excavating the injected foam. Everything seems normal with him knocking the suspected areas with a mallet. The only visual abnormaly we noticed, ( in the drivers side) is the absence of fibreglasss being attached between the floor and the stringer which is present on the front passenger side. He installed the fibreglass support which is absent on the driver's side and reinforced all the areas in that cavity. The bangings persist. Looks like it is gonna be a long drawn battle ahead!

Sorry to hear about your problem, mate. I have a 2008 Seafarer and have never heard the sound you describe nor has anyone mentioned it in forums I read. I would look first to my dealer for assistance. If there's no solution there, contact Grady White customer service via the web or phone. In my experience the company will bend over backward to please a customer. Best of luck and good fishing.

Any chance you could take a video and post on youtube? The build is pretty straight forward on these things; I would almost bet if it could be seen and heard that someone here would be able to help pinpoint the cause.
