I love the wide beam on the Gulfstream. It is so much more comfortable to fish (just move around in general) with a few people compared to a standard beam. The stability is noticeable compared to other 8' 6" beam boats I have been on.

As far as best fishing transom I'd have to say its any of the older tailgate models...Dolphin, Sailfish, Seafarer?, 265 Express

Gulfstream is a big little boat. I like it. It's definitely a fishing machine. But I went bigger with the 265. You do have to consider trailer regs over 8'6".

In 10 years walkarounds will be all the rage again.

Tarheel1: Eurotransom yes, so maybe I should have paid homage to the 265.

But without a fishbox back there, the 258 engines are close enough that I can chase a Sailfish around the back end of the boat when fishing alone. But it is also just wide enough to have a couple of built in rod holders across the top, within easy reach. I believe the 258 is the only walkaround with this combination. The 228 comes close (which we also tested), but then you’re giving up a bit of boat length and weight from either the 258 or 232.

Fished with a friend when we tested the 232, but as I recall, it would not be so easy to chase a Sailfish around the back.

That said, there were many nights while doing the Loop that I thought the more spacious cabin of the 232 would be nice right now.

Both nice boats.
