The 23 Gulfstream is a beast. They do handle the rough stuff well and are very stable. I sea trialed mine in a nasty day with 3' chop and the wide beam and weight of the boat leads to a very stable boat. ......mine has twin 150's and it cruises easily at 25-30 mph netting around 2 miles per gallon.

Hi I have exact same boat and absolutely love it and feel very comfortable in it offshore. It handles great and I cruise at 30-35mph burning 1.8 mpg 4100 rpms. Boat holds 182 gallons went off 75 miles last year trolled for 2 hours than drifted rest of day moving occasionally and came home with 90 gallons so it has very good range I think .
Good Luck

The Gulfstream is an excellent all around boat that serves well in almost all kinds of activities and conditions. Whether or not it's right for you depends on what you call "ruff stuff". The boat is very stable at rest and when moving slowly though anything over 2' of chop. Trying to cruise in 3' or more with a short period, in my experience, pounds uncomfortably - which most boats under 30' or so tend to do. Moving slowly through the ruff stuff, the boat is a tank and always feels safe. We love ours and have put on 1,200 hours in three years.

Best of luck with her.

I agree with lgusto....the Gulfstream was not designed to run like a bastard in any conditions...she is short and fat..built for comfort and dependability....like a good wife.....you want to live fast and loose in the fast lane, you need one long and slender....like go-fast boat or a supermodel....would be teriffic and fun to play with...but expensive to feed (always hungry due to purging/big motors), maintain and keep happy......

Thanks for the replies i would prefer to spend a bit more for a better built boat which is why i have chosen the 232 .Have looked at wellcraft and robalo ,also boston whalers have been told there is more fishing room in the 232 .Will be in touch i am sure i will have a lot more questions once the boat arrives. If every thing goes well.

Hi jasonc
I have just got a gulfstream over from NC to Tassie and the boat is very good to ride in in rough water and has a lot of fishing room.
The boat is a lot bigger than it looks in photos. Hope all goes well with getting it over to Aus. Watch out for water in fuel when you get it home
and change all the oil for your HPDI. I blew one motor up last weeked due to old oil I think motor only done 130hrs.

Jasonc,

Look into the 25 Sailfish models. It is pretty much the same boat as the Gulfstream but 2 feet longer and I think a lot more of them were made, so they should be easier to locate. THe Voyager is a nice boat, but will be different ride than the wider hull.

The Gulfstream is a great boat - you will never believe you are in a 23 footer - rides and handles like a much bigger - the wide beam makes it great for stability - I had the single engine model and it was a little underpowerd particulary in rough water or with a full crew - the twin 150s will be great - enjoy!

If you are comfortable with the 23 Gulfstream, you will be fine with a 25..I have had a pair of 26 Shamrocks and there was no difference in the handling or my comfort level...after my first one I jumped up to a 34 Silverton and that was a big girl...
