GW Chase 263 with Yamaha F200 I4s question?

New member to the forum here with a couple of questions. I have a Chase 263 (1996 model) which I have repowered with the new Yamaha F200 I4s. I'm running the factory 19" props that came with the engine. I have about 15 hours on the engines. The question that I have is are there any other members that have a 1996 to 2000 model boats that have repowered with these particular engines? If so I'd like to know what props you're using and also how the engines are rigged on the boat, i.e., how high on the transom.

My reason for the inquiry is that I'm having a strange handling sensation at high speeds. I wouldn't quite describe it at porpoising but similar. I believe the engines need to be raised on the transom a hole or two and also that I need to go to a smaller pitch prop at least a 17" pitch.

I appreciate any suggestions.

For those of you repowering with this model boat and engine, I'd suggest hanging the engines in the #3 hole. I currently have 19" pitch props but will be stepping down to 17" pitch.

Just to finish this thread if anyone is considering repowering, I've added a couple of SE 300 hydra foils (no drill version). They work great.

I suspect you are one of the first person on this website to install the new I4-200 outboards, I think this is the reason none of us have responded.

Please share your thoughts on your new outboards as compared to the old. Many of us are considering the new I4-200, but not many people around here have them yet.

I have a pair of Yamaha SWS II 15.5 x17" pitch props that ware my spares on my Marlin 300. They have approximately 95 hours on them. I run 19" pitch. If you need a set I will sell them for $400 for the pair plus shipping. I can send you pictures if you PM your email.

I have followed your posts between here and THT about this repower and am interested in getting some more information. I have the 99 263 with the 225 ox66s - the boat will flat out fly for a grady but I'm starting to drink the 4 stroke kool-aid over fuel consumption. That and I'm due for some serious maintenance on powerheads at just over 1000hrs, going back and forth on where that money is better spent incase she blows a top soon. Your information is even more valuable to me because I am just now getting into high speeding and want to know how she performs. Being that I fish the coast of South Carolina and make long runs high speeding is pretty much out of the question with the ox66s, it pushes the limits of my fuel capacity to far for my comfort. About 3 years back I ran my 247 Advance with twin SWS out of gas literally as the boat obtained the momentum necessary to coast into my slip. :shock: Did you ever figure out the correct props and mounting height to get her to turn 6000? I am looking for the performance data for the f200 i4 setup across the rpm range if possible. Grady has told me that I could run the 3.3L or 4.2L offshore but the way I get loaded to fish there's no way I wouldn't have to move my scuppers.

What rpm are you seeing with the 19" props. I have wondered when it comes time to repower my sailfish if the new F200's have the power & torque to get her up & go.
