Had tank deck redone, big thanks to Crow's Nest Marina

I recently had my deck above the tanks redone/re glassed by Crow's Nest Marina in Oceanside LI. They were soft to the point where if I stepped in certain places, I swear I could feel the top of the pick ups. They also installed a new tranducer and repaired some delamination/gel coat above my port scupper. Was there today tinkering around with the list of other things to tidy up before she's goes back in the water.

Top notch work. The guys over there know what they are doing and only do things the correct way. Can't say enough about them. If you're ever looking to have work done I recommend you stop by. The owner can walk you around and show you different stages of various projects being done. I only have a few pictures up to the halfway point and I'll post more within a few days after they text me the remaining photos. I stopped in throughout the process and I could tell they take pride in what they do. It came out so good I almost feel guilty not having the topside re painted.... I fish too ruff and I would only end up scuffing up by mid summer lol. Plus it was a choice between cosmetic repairs or an axiom pro.....Oh and I also installed new cup holders that drain onto the deck, something I seen on this forum!

Yep, Grady never sealed them correctly, I redid both of mine a few years back. Nice stepping on a solid deck!

Almost forgot cupholders I put in. Maybe next winter I'll upholster my combing pads.

The screws go thru the wood. If you really want to prevent that years down the road, you can't run the wood to the edges.

Agree. Leads, look at how Grady ran the plywood squares right to the edge of the panel. That also doesn't give a whole lot of area for the bottom skin to adhere to the panel edge - just a little bit of flexing will open that joint and let water in... and based on how that guy is peeling back the bottom skin, that looks to be excatly what happened. Next, look at how your shop stopped the new core an inch or so from the panel edge (and deck plate edge) - that's done correctly.

FYI, a core does NOT have to go edge to edge for full strength. Actually, the core really isn't the actual structure - it just keeps the top and bottom layer of glass separated, which creates the strength.

I pre drilled through the wood where the screws fasten and shot epoxy down each hole. After that I got a bead of 4200 sealant on each screw up to the head and wiped off the excess after I set them in the deck. When I had to pull the deck plates up last summer to replace my gas tanks n fuel lines everything was still bone dry underneath. Unfortunate I had to rip them back off

I would have cut the plywood shorter like you guys are saying had I known, but I went with the advice I got from Grady.

They don't even take the time to do the squares properly. There should be a good slurry so if one square get wet they don't all get wet. I'm amazed there are as many of these boats still on the water.
