have several places on the underside of my 265 express hardtop that are flaking/delaminating. I plan on scraping off the flaking areas, but what to go back with? Gelcoat or some other patch material? I am sure this is a common maintenance item for older (2001) Grady Whites…

The hardtop on my 1997 268 Islander was chipping around the edges and generally looked like crap. I refinished with AwlFair and painted the hardtop with AwlCraft 2000. It came out great but was a lot of work. You probably don't want to go this far.

You can repair with gelcoat. Sand out the areas, clean up and re-coat. Your problem is going to be matching the texture. If you can get a experienced fiberglass guy to take on a small repair that may be your best bet.
